Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures
Our main objective is to ensure the safety of our students. Between 7-8 a.m. and between 3-3:30 p.m., students may not be dropped off or picked up anywhere on Breckinridge Street. This includes the metered parking lanes. The traffic flow on Breckinridge Street has changed considerably with the addition of bike lanes.
A guard will be present at the corner of Fourth and Breckinridge and a teacher will greet students at the Breckinridge door between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. and 3-3:30 p.m. each day.
Students will park in the Spalding University lot off of Third Street, the second lot from Breckinridge heading South. Guests may park at Spalding during evening events.
Drop Off –
Drop off in the morning is generally staggered so two locations should suffice.
You may drop your daughter off at the parking lot behind Immanuel Church (This is the church with large columns directly across from the school on the northwest corner of 4th & Breckinridge Streets). Please pull into the parking lot so that other cars may enter and exit safely.
You may choose to drop off your daughter on the east side of Fourth Street. Please use the inside lanes in front of the Spalding Egan center or in front of our academic building. Keep in mind that you may not stop in the “no stopping” area between the corner of Breckinridge and the TARC bus stop. TARC buses run regularly and we must keep this area open.
Pick Up –
You may pick up your daughter on either side of Fourth Street.
You may pull into the parking lot directly behind Immanuel Church and wait for your daughter there. The church has graciously agreed to allow our parents to use this space for pick up and drop off. This is the safest location for pick up. However, the lot may not be used for parking during the school day.
(Please note that you may not pick up your daughter anywhere on Breckinridge Street.)
Safety Reminders
It is never permissible to drop off or pick up a student in the middle driving lanes.
When entering or exiting a car on Fourth Street, students should always do so on the sidewalk side of the car. Please do not allow your daughter to exit the car into traffic.
Students may never text or talk on the phone as they cross the street.
Student drivers may not use their phones as they enter or exit our parking lot.
Cars should enter and exit the parking lot slowly, watching at all times for pedestrians.
At 7:00 each morning and again at 3:00 in the afternoon, a Presentation security guard is on duty at the corner of Fourth and Breckinridge Streets. A staff member is stationed at the Breckinridge Street entrance and an employee is also present in our student parking lot. (There is no guard on duty at the corner of Third & Breckinridge Streets, so students must always walk to the corner of Fourth and Breckinridge to cross the street. )
We ask for your cooperation as we enforce our regulations for drop off and pick up. The girls are aware that they will receive a detention if they do not follow the correct procedure and abide by all safety regulations.
Learning how to navigate in an urban setting is one of the best lessons your daughter will learn during her four years at Presentation. However, safety is always our primary concern.
As previously mentioned, adults are strategically stationed during drop off and pick up. In addition, during the change of classes, when students cross from the Academic Building to the Arts and Athletics Center, a guard is always present to assist.
Remember, all traffic laws must be obeyed during the process of picking up or dropping off your daughter.
